Hives house millions of tiny insectoid aliens. When a human approaches the structure, the insects leave the hive and chase after the Human. Insectoids can not follow around corners. Hives may be built on ceilings, walls, and the floor. In Tremulous 1.1.0, the Hive has considerably less hitpoints than the Acid Tube, so it's not always the better choice even though its attack is powerful.
