Among the upgrades available to Humans, there is Armour (keywords "larmour", "helmet", "bsuit"). Wearing Armour will reduce the amount of damage taken from enemy attacks. It is usually advised to first buy Armor before buying a weapon. Even builders who stay inside of the base are better off using Armor because it prevents them from Feeding.
